It’s all about Alton Brown
I don’t really like Iron Chef. Squid ink ice cream? No way.
But then I found out that Alton Brown was rushed to the hospital after suffering heart arrhythmia in early March 2004. Which got me curious - would Alton be actually be competing?
Perhaps I should back up a second for those of you that are not fortunate enough to get Food TV. Alton Brown hosts a show on Food TV called “Good Eats”. Unlike other cooking shows that merely give you the recipe and focus on the “Bam!”, Good Eats takes a step back and looks at why food works the way it does. The quintessential Good Eats episode (to me) is Three Chips for Sister Marsha, where Alton takes the standard Toll House Cookie recipe, and modifies it in three different ways. But more importantly, he shows why the changes to each recipe does what it does. It makes you not afraid to experiment.
So back to Iron Chef. As it turns out, no, he’s not competing. As a friend said “He’d MacGyver their ass.”. A bit unfair to the Japanese I guess.
But what is probaby more interesting is that Alton will be the commentator.
If he’ll be talking, I’ll be watching.
